Sisterhood President's Message

It’s finally March with spring and Passover fast approaching. Remember to check out Hermie’s, the Judaica Shop at Temple Emanuel for all your Passover needs. Beautiful Seder plates, Haggadahs, hostess gifts, and even bags of plagues are available to enhance your Seder. In addition to Passover items, a number of books by Anita Diamant, this year’s Ways and Means speaker, are available for purchase.

Family Bingo Night, which has become quite a tradition, will be held on Sunday, March 21st.from 5:00 – 6:30pm in the Social Hall. It’s BYOB for adults and prizes for kids. A special thanks to Julie Bernstein and Tara Satlow for organizing the fun. Keep an eye on your email and the Temple website for another women’s event coming in March and details about a great April vacation program for children: Knuckle Bones.

Sisterhood is already looking ahead to next year’s events. We are looking to round out our Board and add some new faces to various committees. With over 250 women, it is impossible for us to know everyone, so if we haven’t directly reached out to you, please reach out to us. Let us know your interests and expertise so we can get you involved in a meaningful way.

Feel free to contact me directly at Krichmar@comcast.net or Lori Burke, our nominating chair, at john-lori@comcast.net.

Wishing you a Happy Passover............................Karen Krichmar

Women of Reform Judaism is the voice, the presence and the venue for action of the women of Reform Judaism in the synagogue, the Jewish community, interfaith groups and the general, local, national and international community. It is the women's agency and an affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), the central body of Reform Judaism in North America. The founder of NFTY (the North American Federation of Temple Youth) and a founder of the Jewish Braille Institute, WRJ is a member of the World Union for Progressive Judaism and works on behalf of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.

WRJ brings together more than 75,000 Jewish women in over 500 Sisterhoods throughout the United States and in Canada and in other countries: Panama, Netherlands Antilles, Argentina, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands, Israel, the Republic of South Africa, India, Australia and New Zealand.

Founded in 1913 as the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods (NFTS), the organization was established during a historic period of advancing struggle for recognition and equality for women.  Empowered by the Reform Movement 's precept of placing Jewish women on a plane of religious equality with men, NFTS became active in areas that continue to define its work today.
